Ian Carmichael

Iain is a Scottish Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in the private and public sectors. From his early years in the accountancy profession he moved into the finance sector and then economic development. He was Scottish manager for Kellock Ltd, the invoice factoring arm of the Bank of Scotland before joining Lanarkshire Development Agency (LDA), a local enterprise company in the Scottish Enterprise network, as Finance Director.

In 1996 he was promoted to chief executive of LDA which was the lead organisation tasked with the regeneration of Lanarkshire following the demise of the steel industry, in particular the closure of the Ravenscraig steel plant. He chaired the Ravenscraig Steering Group that developed the first masterplan for the site’s regeneration.

In 2000 he moved to become Chief Financial Officer of Scottish Enterprise and was involved in establishing the Scottish Enterprise Co-investment Fund.

He retired from this post in 2007. Until recently, Iain was also chair of Fusion Assets Ltd, the property development and regeneration company established by North Lanarkshire Council to encourage economic development through physical development projects.
