Case Study

Peanut Pie Baby Ltd is an online retailer of children’s clothing for babies and toddlers, founded in October 2020 by two working mothers, Lynne O’Keeffe and Gillian Bristow. The business was established to cater to the demand for high-quality products for new parents and customers buying gifts for children. The company name was inspired by Lynne’s nickname for her first baby bump, which she referred to as “Peanut Pie.” The two directors had a background in fashion and textiles and launched the business with their savings before seeking funding options through their local Business Gateway, which referred them to DSL.

The directors approached DSL to fund further stock purchases, equipment costs, and stationery expenses. DSL assisted them by advising on aspects of the business plan, cashflow projections, and queries around the application process. Loans of £3,500 were provided to each of the two directors, allowing them to proceed with their plans. This highlights that smaller loans are available and can have just as much impact as higher-value loans.

Since the loan funds were disbursed, the business has grown significantly, with sales increasing consistently. The directors were delighted with the support given by DSL and are appreciative for the assistance provided.

The success of Peanut Pie Baby Ltd demonstrates the impact of SULC loans, which have enabled small businesses to grow and thrive. The support provided by DSL has been instrumental in helping the business achieve its goals, highlighting the value of expert advice and guidance. The Peanut Pie Baby story is an excellent example of the power of entrepreneurship and the positive impact it can have on individuals and communities.
